If you're writing a Sims story and need your characters to only grow up when you say so, or just feel attached to your Sim family and don't want to let them go, you can prevent them from getting any older. This wikiHow will teach you how to disable aging in the Sims games.

  1. 1

Open your game options. This is the white ... in the upper right-hand corner.

  2. 2

    Go to the Gameplay tab.

  3. 3

Find the dropdown for "Auto Age (Played Sims)". From here, you have two choices for aging:

    • Click No to disable aging for all households you've played, including the household you're currently playing.
    • Click Only Active Household to disable aging except for the household you're currently playing.
  4. 4

Uncheck "Auto Age (Unplayed Sims)" to prevent other Sims from aging. If you don't want townies and unplayed households to grow older, then just uncheck this box and they should no longer age as well.

  5. 5

Click Apply Changes to save your changes. Once your changes have saved, your Sims should no longer age.

  1. 1

Open up a save file or a new family. You can't adjust the aging settings if you're not in a world - the option will appear grayed-out otherwise.

  2. 2

Open the Options menu. Click on the blue ... on the lower left-hand corner of the screen and click Options .

  3. 3

Go to Game Options. This is the tab with gears on it.

  4. 4

Uncheck "Enable Aging". This is on the right side of the menu.

  5. 5

Press the checkmark on the bottom of the Options screen. This will save your settings, and your Sims should no longer age.

  1. 1

Press Ctrl+ Shift+C . This will open the cheat box.

  2. 2

Type in aging off and press Enter . That's it! Your Sims will no longer age until you exit the game.

    • You'll need to retype the cheat when you restart the game.
    • To reenable aging, enter aging on.

  • In Sims 3, Sims who are away from their home world (e.g., Sims who are traveling or at university) will not age until they return home.

  • Young Adult Sims in The Sims 2 don't age by default, since the Young Adult stage is limited to university students. Young Adults will age up to Adults when they leave college.

  • Some alternate life states, such as zombies and vampires, don't age in The Sims 2. This does not apply to PlantSims, however. (Sims 3 and later does away with the lack of aging, and instead gives these life forms a much longer time to live.)

  • If you want to disable aging in Sims 2 without having to retype the cheat every time you play, you can edit your userstartup.cheat file to add aging off.

  • Sims don't age by default in The Sims 1.

  • This cannot be used to age down a Sim. You'll need another means to age them down.
