How To Change The Battery In My Bmw Key Fob
How to Replace the Battery from Your BMW Key Fob
Learning how to replace the battery from your BMW key fob takes nothing more than a few moments. What's more, since the replacement battery you need can be found at many local convenience stores and parts centers for ten dollars or less, this is one DIY car care task that's easy to handle on your own. We've covered all the steps for Smart Keys and Comfort Keys below!
BMW Key Fob Replacement Made Easy
Is your BMW key fob failing to operate as it should? The first step in the battery replacement process requires you to determine what kind of key you're dealing with. Older, diamond-shaped BMW key fobs may use rechargeable batteries, but newer models (and all models with BMW Comfort Access technology) utilize an easily-replaceable CR2450 or CR2032 battery. It's not a bad idea to open the key fob and check the size before you go out and buy a replacement. For drivers with BMW Comfort Access, BMW key fob battery replacement will require a CR2032 battery. Here's how to replace the battery from your BMW key fob:
- Press in the small tab on the side of your key fob, and remove the metal valet key.
- Removing the key will reveal a small gap that you can use to separate the fob casing. Use the valet key or a small flathead screwdriver, and wrap the head in a small amount of tape to prevent scratching.
- If your key won't open, you probably have a version with a rechargeable battery on your hands. If you're not sure of how to recharge it, contact our service team.
- If it does pop open, simply take out the old battery and replace it with a new one, taking care to ensure that the orientation is correct.
- Press the fob back together with your fingers, and you should be good to go!
If you're still experiencing difficulty with your BMW remote start or Comfort Access features, it may be that your key needs to be paired with the vehicle! We can help you learn how to program a new BMW key, too.
BMW Comfort Access Technology
If you're out and about, running errands in Minneapolis or Richfield, a properly-equipped BMW can learn to recognize your touch automatically:
- In models with BMW Comfort Access technology, your key will be identified as you approach; simply touch the door handle, and the car will unlock!
- Pressing "start" will get the engine roaring, and you won't ever have to take the key out of your purse or pocket.
